Dropbox is handing out yet another early peek at a fresh new tool for the early-adopting enthusiast crowd. The cloud-based storage service is introducing a feature that’ll allow all your photo / video captured memories to be instantly transferred as soon as you plug in a device that houses your media, and you can have a raw look at the “experimental build” now. Before you do, though, Dropbox is warning you to take the dive at your own risk. There’s no word on when the tool will hit the masses, but if you’re willing to get past the notice, the source link will fill you in on all the necessary deets.

It’s been a good long while since Apple unveiled a new Time Capsule, almost two years since the 2TB model rolled out. At the time that was a volume of storage that you couldn’t possibly fill up — even if you ripped your entire Peter Gabriel collection in lossless. Now, nearly 24 months later, you’re out of room for the latest Greatest Hits compilations, never mind Scratch My Back and the subsequent buddy album. Now Apple has your back, releasing an updated Time Capsule offering up to 3TB of storage for all your former Genesis frontman listening needs.

If you’ve been following the seemingly-massive Gmail outage, you’ll know that it’s actually not as massive as it sounds. Google’s revised its estimate again to say that only “0.02% of Google Mail users” — roughly about 38,000 by our calculations — were affected by the issue in total, claims that a full third of them have already had access restored, and expects the issue “to be resolved for everyone within 12 hours.” As to the fate of years worth of email, Google reps wouldn’t say, but promised us that engineers are working “as quickly as possible” to see the data restored as well. Keep hanging on, folks.

If you’ve got a working Gmail account, you might want to back it up every so often — as many as 500,000 Gmail users lost access to their inboxes this morn, and some of them are reporting (via Twitter and support forums) that years worth of messages, attachments and Google Chat logs had vanished by the time they were finally able to log on. While we haven’t experienced the issue personally, we’re hearing that the bug effectively reset some accounts, treating their owners as new users complete with welcome messages. For its part, Google says that the issue “affects less than .29% of the Google Mail userbase,” engineers are working to fix the issue right now, and that missing messages will be restored as soon as possible. We’ll soon see if this is a momentary setback… or a lengthy wakeup call.

Update: No fix yet, but Google’s revised its estimate as to how many users might have been affected by the issue — “less than 0.08%” — which means we’re probably looking at closer to 150,000 individuals, rather than 500,000. We’re assuming that the revised estimate means that the initial count wasn’t precise, and not that customers are ditching Gmail in droves.

Update 2: Google’s provided promising but terribly vague guidance on when the situation will be resolved: “Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change.”

Update 3: One-third of users have now had their account access restored, according to Google. Read all about it here.

How to backup and restore Adventnet Helpdesk software

We had to move our Adventnet helpdesk to another server.

Below are steps taken to backup database, install Adventnet on another server, restore database and switch the service on.

Adventnet Service Desk runs on MySQL, they provide tools for you to manage your database.

Tools located in:

%programfiles%AdventNetMEServiceDesk. or where ever you have installed it.

Backup the database and remember what version of the database you are using.

You can check the version under the ‘about’ button on the web page.

Go to ‘Start Menu’

+ Programs
+ ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus
+ and select ‘Backup Data’

This is automated…….

When that is done the backup should be located usually here:

%programfiles%AdventNetMEServiceDeskbackup

Example of filename: ‘backup_servicedesk_6006_fullbackup_06_08_2007_15_36.data’

Note: Remember the location of database backup you will need it on new server.

To proceed all you need to make sure is you have the programs correct build and version to restore database.

For us its:
Version : 6.0.0
Build Number : 6006

So when you download the program download package from here:

http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/service-desk/index.html

Service pack are located here:

http://manageengine.adventnet.com/products/service-desk/service-packs.html

When installing the package make sure you have the license code ready.

Ok now, install the program and service packs until you have the same version running.

Add the license code and apply.

Locate %programfiles&AdventNetMEServiceDeskbin and open the tool ‘restoreData.bat’.

A window will open and just follow the prompts, all you need is the location of the backed up database.

Restart services and you should have your helpdesk back online.
