If you swing past your local Best Buy and pick up one of those new-fangled LG Smart TVs, you’ll find TouchTV’s news-clip collection platform available inside. That way you’ll be able to watch the trendiest (or at least the most watched) current-affairs clips without having to wait the twenty seconds or so before your rolling news channel of choice displays similar. TouchTV also announced today an iPad app that’ll let you grab those newsy clips from your Apple-based slate of choice. The app’s available gratis from the store (link below) and we’ve got the official words and pictures from the company about both products after the interval.

If you’re jonesing to get your photos and movies from your smartphone back to the home computer without futzing around with cables, the folks at SugarSync have a new spoonful of sweetness for Android and iOS devices — and with its free price, it should be easy to swallow. In the latest version, the company has applied its AutoSync technology to videos, which means that all media files can now be synced to the cloud and pushed to linked computers without user intervention. As this could involve a significant amount of data, AutoSync Videos works only over WiFi, and users may select from three compression qualities based on their desire for picture quality or upload speed. The latest SugarSync apps also feature a redesigned photos tab, which lets users view all their pictures — not just the recent ones — and offers quicker navigation along with larger, high-res previews. The company gives all users 5GB of storage absolutely gratis, so if you have a lot of media to unload, it may be worthwhile to hop aboard. You’ll find the complete PR announcements just after the break.

Between us, you and the wall, we suspect a sequel is on the way in the shape of the Contour 200i Air that’s just been escorted out of the FCC’s underground bunker and dumped unceremoniously on a Washington highway.

It’s been a few weeks since Apple’s issued a worldwide recall on a number of its first-gen iPod nanos at risk for becoming uncomfortably hot under the collar. Evidently, many folks who’ve sent their devices into AppleCare to get swapped are finding that they’ve being treated with an upgrade to the current sixth-gen variant. Lovers of click wheels and the Chicago typeface may view its square, touchscreen shell as folly, but hey, its hard to fuss over owning latest there is, right? The replacement program is still ongoing, so if you haven’t checked to see if your nano qualifies, hit up the “more coverage” link below to find out. Already got yours back? Let us know your mileage in comments!

	[Thanks, Scott]

We’ve been clamoring for a dedicated Gmail app on iOS for so long that, now that there’s one available, we couldn’t help but take it for a test drive. Once installed the thing differentiates itself from the previous, HTML5-based app by using a darker, more mysterious black background for the app icon. Otherwise it’s the same white and red envelope. Open that up and the app inside looks mighty familiar too. Join us after the break for some quick impressions.

Update: Google’s confirmed on its blog that the Gmail app contains a bug that breaks notifications, and it’s pulled the app while it fixes it. A new version is promised “soon.”

Apple has just pushed a new version of iOS, 4.3.4 (4.2.9 for the Verizon iPhone), and it looks to have “fixed” the PDF exploit that has been so notoriously exploited of late. In a summary of what’s changed, Apple indicates that a fix has been applied that will prevent “arbitrary code execution” when viewing a “maliciously crafted PDF” — business speak for “we broke your jailbreak, son.” And, sure enough, you can see what happens after the break when trying to apply the latest. At this point we’re not seeing any other updates or improvements but, really, now that you can view those malicious PDFs without fear on your iPhone or iPad 2, what more do you need?

Ready for a newly refined recipe for the next flavor of iOS? After dropping iOS 5 beta 2 on us on June 24th, Apple has now unleashed beta 3, meaning those with sensitive taste buds (and developer accounts) can start sniffing and sussing out what’s changed. Of note seem to be a bevy of toggles controlling location services in detail, while there’s also a new switch for voice roaming in settings. From what we’re seeing not a lot has changed visually anywhere outside of the gears icon, but don’t let that stop you from grabbing this savory download.

Update: In case you were wondering, yes indeed this new beta can still be jailbroken.

Summer’s nearly here, the sun shining bright — wouldn’t you like to share your tunes with friends with friends while basking in the light? That’s what Eton’s counting on as it prepares to ship the Soulra XL, the solar-powered iPod boombox formerly known as the Soulra 2. As we discovered at CES in January, its set of eight speakers get pretty loud, and Eton claims it charges twice as fast as its predecessor (five hours) thanks to a sizable monocrystal solar panel, and lasts five hours on a charge. It’ll juice your phone, too. All told, you’ll be schlepping around seven pounds and paying $300 for the privilege of completely cordless mobile sound. Sound like a deal to you? You’ll find Eton ready to shake your hand at our source link.

Look out iTunes, Spotify has just launched its new music download service in Europe. What’s more, the company that had been synonymous with music streaming will let you sync your downloaded MP3 playlist bundles to your USB-connected iPod classic, nano, or shuffle via a new “Devices” section of the Spotify app running on your computer. And listen up freeloaders, Spotify Mobile iOS and Android app users can now sync playlists wirelessly without a premium subscription. Here’s a quote from Daniel Ek, Spotify CEO, sure to create some angst in Cupertino:

“From today, Spotify really is the only music player you’ll ever need. Our users don’t want to have to switch between music players, but they do want to take their playlists with them wherever they go, on a wider range of devices, more simply and at a price they can afford. Now we’ve made that possible on one of the world’s most popular consumer devices.”

Spotify download prices for its nine million users of the free service (not premium subscribers) breaks down as follows:

10 tracks for €9.99 or €1.00 per track (£7.99 or just under 80p per track)

15 tracks for €12.99 or €0.87 per track (£9.99 / 67p)

40 tracks for €30.00 or €0.75 per track (£25 / 63p)

100 tracks for €60.00 or €0.60 per track (£50 / 50p)

All the new features will begin rolling out today as part of an automatic update. See the full press release after the break as well as a quick introduction video to get you started.

Helmet cam aficionado? Contour’s ContourGPS currently has the greatest range of connectivity options, and one of those options, Bluetooth, is finally good for something. The company has just flipped the switch and deployed its Viewfinder app that we last saw at CES, which allows iOS devices to pull live video from the camera, even if it’s still stuck to the side of your head and covered in mud. Users can also tweak camera settings in real-time, which is a huge step forward over the previous process that required tethering the cam and booting up some software. However, there is a catch: to use the device you have to install a little card, called a ConnectView, into your camera. This sucker will set you back $29.99, though we’re told the upcoming Android release of the app will be able to do without. Unfortunately, that version won’t be along until an unfortunately vague “Spring,” but the iOS flavor is a free download right now in the App Store.
